Shine on Like a bright torch in a claustrophobic cave, cell
phones that are released after the TU720/CU720 would do well to follow its
example in terms of features and design. The Shine provides a high benchmark
against which cell phones made available after are going to be compared to.The
TU720/CU720 is encased in a stainless steel case giving it a certifiable heft
and weight. The polished metal exterior lends it an elegant air that speaks of
sophistication and gives a hint at the amazing features that lie beneath. The
phone slides up and down to reveal the sleek number pad that responds very well
to your actions. There are two more features on the phone that enable you to
easily navigate through the menu system and allow new levels of interactivity.
The scroll bar in the middle responds immediately to the slightest touch and the
two buttons on either side of it enable further exploration of the menu’s
sub-levels.
There is a dedicated camera
button on the side, which is always convenient for snapping those sudden
photographic moments. The camera itself is a 2-megapixel camera that
gets some nice shots and allows for video calling. There is a volume toggle on
the side so you don't have to take the phone from your ear when on a call. A micro
SD card slot is placed on the other side of the phone to expand the
handset's internal memory. Best of all, unlike the unlocked LG Dare, the device
has 3G
support giving you fast speeds when browsing online and checking
e-mail.
The LG Shine personifies its
name perfectly. Not only does it shine, it positively gleams. It has a lovely
polished-metal exterior and a downright sparkling mirror-finish display that
exudes luxury and sophistication. In fact, you can use the display as a small
compact mirror when the phone is in standby mode. Measuring 3.93 inches
tall by 1.99 inches wide by 0.59 inch thick and weighing about 4.23 ounces, the
Shine has a solid stainless steel body that makes it feel very sturdy in the
hand. The Shine's slider mechanism feels solid as well, requiring a firm push
so it can slide smoothly. Similarly to the KE970, however, we do wish there was
some kind of thumb grip near the phone's chin to make it easier to slide
open--as it is, our fingers often slipped on the phone's glossy surface
instead.
