If you are a fan of compact, handy phones packed in with
loads of features and also high on functionality and style, then the new
Pantech Matrix C740 for AT&T is just what the doctor ordered. The phone has
a one of a kind dual-sliding double-keypad feature that allows you to use both
the QWERTY and the regular numeric keypad. The battery type of the Pantech
matrix C740 is Lithium-ion. Users can get a talk time of up to 180 minutes and
a standby time of up to 10.5 days. The Pantech Matrix C740 comes with a quad
band GSM coverage (850/900/1800/1900 MHZ) and data download speeds from 3G (on
AT&T’s HSDPA data networks), HSDPA (Average speed of 700 Kbps), and EDGE
(up to 144 kbps) cellular networks. Location services like Google Maps are
built into the GPS receiver.
The build quality on the Matrix is pretty good, and the
handset is stylish looking, if a bit blockish. We weren't horribly impressed
with either the keypad or the keyboard, but having both options available is a
very nice thing. The only real issue with the QWERTY keyboard is the layout,
since it offers only 3 rows of keys. That messes with the positioning of the
keys and prevents it from being laid out exactly like a normal keyboard. But
otherwise, it worked pretty well. The 12 key keypad, on the other hand, just
didn't offer the best feel.
The Matrix comes with a colorful 2.2 inches display with
over 262,000 colors. The phone measures 4.0 in x 2.0 in x 0.8 inches and
contains a round wheel for scrolling up and down, send and end keys, navigation
keys along with a music key to access music features. The integrated
speakerphones make handsfree communication oh so easy. With the Bluetooth
profile (A2DP), one can stream music to any compatible Bluetooth-enabled stereo
headphones. Through Bluetooth or USB you can connect to your laptop and access
the web, send or receive emails, have dial-up networking and access files from
a server.
